Create a practice résumé

Build a short résumé for a fictional project, then export a PDF.

Before you start

We will build a practice résumé for Alex Example, who built a booking form with React. The finished PDF contains a name and a Projects section.

Use a desktop browser and an account that can sign in to River. For account setup, follow Access your workspace.

The Getting started checklist on Job targets tracks your saved work. You can skip it and reopen it in Settings. AI is optional for this tutorial.

Save the practice source

First, add the material we will cite.

  1. Open Sources.
  2. Select Add source.
  3. Enter "Practice: Alex Example" in Title.
  4. Set Source type to Pasted text.
  5. Paste the following text into Source text:
Fictional practice profile: Alex Example. Project: Booking form. Built a booking form with React.
  6. Select Save source.

Wait until the source shows its extracted text. The text contains the practice profile you pasted.

Create a cited Draft claim

Now, connect the project statement to its source.

  1. Open Evidence bank.
  2. Select New claim.
  3. Enter "Built a booking form with React." in Assertion.
  4. Select Add citation.
  5. Choose "Practice: Alex Example" in Source.
  6. Enter "Built a booking form with React." in Exact quote.
  7. Confirm that River shows Exact match.
  8. Select Add citation.
  9. Select Create claim.

The new claim appears in the evidence bank with the Draft state and its supporting quotation. Leave the claim in Draft.

Create a practice job target

Use a fictional posting for this draft.

  1. Open Job targets.
  2. Select Add job target.
  3. Enter "Practice frontend developer" in Role title.
  4. Enter "Example Company" in Company.
  5. Enter "Fictional practice posting. Build web forms with React." in Complete posting text.
  6. Select Create job target.
  7. In Résumé drafts, select Create résumé draft.
  8. Enter "Practice: Alex Example" in Draft name.
  9. Keep the Classic template.
  10. Select Create draft.

The résumé editor opens with an empty draft. Next, we will add the name that the preview requires.

Add the practice name

Use a starter to add the name without building each reusable field separately.

  1. Open Content library and select the Contact / header starter.
  2. Enter "Practice: contact" in Save as and "Alex Example" in Name.
  3. Select Save to library.
  4. Return to the draft through Job targets, select Choose library section, and choose your saved contact section.

The draft now contains Alex Example as its name. The PDF preview can render this draft.

Add the project

Use the editor’s Back navigation to add the project and its supporting evidence.

  1. Select Create section.
  2. Enter "Practice: projects section" in Library label.
  3. Set Section type to Projects.
  4. Keep Projects as the Section heading.
  5. Under Entries in reading order, select Create entry.
  6. Enter "Practice: booking form block" in Library label.
  7. Under Project title, select Write new wording.
  8. Enter "Practice: project title" in Library label.
  9. Enter "Booking form" in Wording.
  10. Select Create wording.
  11. Under Accomplishments, select Write new wording.
  12. Enter "Practice: React accomplishment" in Library label.
  13. Enter "Built a booking form with React." in Wording.
  14. Select Choose evidence.
  15. Select the practice claim about the booking form.
  16. Select Link this revision.
  17. Select Create wording.
  18. In the block form, select Create entry.
  19. In the section form, select Create section.

Wait for the draft to save and the PDF preview to finish. The PDF shows Alex Example, Projects, Booking form, and the React accomplishment.

Export the practice PDF

Finally, capture and review the practice document.

  1. Wait until the draft reports All changes saved.
  2. Select Capture & review export.
  3. Wait for the checkpoint document to finish.
  4. Inspect the PDF and its extracted text.
  5. Open the evidence-issue review.
  6. Inspect the Draft issue for the accomplishment and the unsupported issues for the name and project title.
  7. For this fictional practice export, select each issue's acknowledgment.
  8. Select Save acknowledgments.
  9. Select Export checkpoint files.
  10. Select Download PDF.

The downloaded PDF contains the practice name and project. The source, claim, library items, draft, and checkpoint remain in your workspace.
